The Akron Summit Community Action, Inc. Head Start/Early Head Start Program realizes the importance of preventative health care.

The Head Start/Early Head Start Program ensures that each child and their family are connected to a primary health and dental care provider. Each child is required to have a complete physical and dental examination annually. Of the total enrollment (2,132), 95% have completed physical exams and 90% have completed dental exams.  In addition, there are health screening services provided to identify potential concerns in such areas as vision, hearing, blood pressure, and physical development.

Health education is also an integral part of the health component, therefore, in order to provide for the safety and well being of children, parents and staff, on-going training and workshops regarding infection control procedures, first aid, CPR and health maintenance techniques are offered.
